Repurposed pallets

I love decorating with free things.  The industrial trend was hot in 2011.  In an effort to mix the two, I found a few of my favorite pallet projects that I would love to do.  What a great way to be green and on trend.

I love how palettes add texture to this focal wall.  The colors are great too.  How great would a bed look against this wall.  It looks like you can just use the vacuum to clean the wall up too.

Where do you find old pallets?  Check out back behind home improvement stores like Home Depot, Lowes, or COSTCO.  Also check industrial parks and warehouses.  If you ask, they'll likely give you the pallets for free!

I sort of like this trend, it's rustic and most important, inexpensive!  What do you think?  Do you like the repurposed pallet trend?

Barnwood headboard {DIY headboard}

I love salvaged wood, especially barn wood.  The grey tones and unevenness of the planks just draw me in.

This reclaimed barn wood headboard reminds me of wide open spaces and simpler times.

I'd love to make this one for our guest room {after I remove the sand textured hunter green paint - ick}.  I'd love to transform the room in to a quiet refuge, and the greys in this headboard seem to say that to me.

Wood shim mirror

Wood shims are widely available and very inexpensive.  I found this really great tutorial from Addicted 2 Decorating which shows you how to turn a pile of shims into this fabulous mirror.

I just love the texture on this mirror!  It would be a great DIY project or a way to repurpose some extra shims into something functional and beautiful.

Coffee table rescue

One of my favorite new blogs is the Crafted Niche.  Dana has some great finds { she found an old wooden card catalog on Craig's List! } and a great gift for sharing her projects.

On Friday, Dana posted a great coffee table project where she rescued this baby from the trash, added some paint and a new top, and voila!  If only it were that simple.  I'm sure it took a lot more vision and sweat to get the table to look this good.

Yardstick Buffet Tutorial { DIY furniture }

On a recent link party at Under the Table and Dreaming, I saw this wonderful yardstick buffet submitted by Laura at Corner House.  I'm seriously in love.  What an inventive idea to take an old piece of furniture and give it such character.  Who knew yardsticks could be so beautiful?

On her blog, Corner House, Laura provides a ton of pictures and clear DIY instructions for this project if you'd like to make your own.  I've pinned this one to my Pinterest board - I must try to do this!

Repurposing industrial accents { inspiration file }

The industrial trend is still hot right now.  With a keen eye, you can find and repurpose industrial items into unique accents for your home at a fraction of the price.

Here is a favorite of mine.  A friend took this first picture while down in High Point, North Carolina visiting an industry trade show.  I love these old jugs hanging from the ceiling.

Now take things one step further and add a few interesting light bulbs and you have yourself a very cool light fixture.

I love these vintage gym locker baskets.  They'd be great for storing just about anything that you don't want to purposely hide.

Restoration Hardware is now selling reproduction baskets and using them to store towels and bath supplies.

Here is a canvas pillow recycled from vintage tent canvas.  The pillows are 18" square and available in greens and beige.  At $55 each, they're a little pricey for my blood, but I'm sure you could visit a military surplus store or distress some canvas and come up with something similar.

Here they are as accent pillows on a blue sectional.

Here's a wind turbine from on top of a barn turned in to a light fixture.  These get pretty pricey, but if you're handy, I don't think it would be too terribly difficult to add a lighting kit to an old turbine.  I have a turbine displayed in my house.  I found it at an antiques market and it's a few feet across and was $45.
